Sandwiched between a crêpe stand and the Beer and Wine Bar, Lotería is winning the hearts and stomachs of regular customers from every race and ethnicity. A tiny red, green and yellow stall at the heart of the Third Street Farmers Market, Loteria serves up Mexican fast food the way it ought to be made. Peering through the glass wall on the stall's south side, you can observe the staff hard at work kneading great mounds of flour tortilla dough, made fresh every day. In addition to basic tacos with such fillings as zucchini succotash and slow roasted pork, the menu offers enchilada plates complete with black beans and rice cooked with a subtle mint flavor. Try the mole, dark, thick and complicated with an interplay of bitter and sweet. At breakfast time there's strong coffee with cinnamon and huevos rancheros. Although most of the recipes are authentically Mexican, Lotería will fix orders of nachos with fresh-made guacamole to appease the crowds from the bar next door.
