At lunch, the roomy booths and tables at this very authentic Italian restaurant are sprinkled with industry types, who choose from such antipasti as the bresaola, steamed clams and mussels, creamy buffalo mozzarella and excellent risotto. The menu features first-rate carpaccio, pizzas with such toppings as Gorgonzola and porcini, thick Tuscan soup made with bread and cabbage, and branzino-filled ravioli. Don't be put off by the below-street-level setting. It makes Madeo a perfect hideaway.

Good but expensive.
by Hanusha on 06/01/2011

I've had very nice meals here previously with friends. but last night our experience was marred by the condescending and somewhat curt attitude of our waiter. My boyfriend and I were there to celebrate his birthday. We shared the Gnocchi ai Gorgonzola ($26, I think), which I'd had before and are terrific. Our waiter cautioned me that Gorgonzola is a blue cheese(!). After that we had Osso Buco ($45) which was a special last night. It was pretty good, even if the sauce was a bit too salty. We were charged $8 for splitting the two dishes.
The restaurant is comfortable and not too loud. My boyfriend thought the food was good but overpriced.

MADEO MAKES ME MAD!
by sirenascott on 07/20/2009

I went to this restaurant on July 13 for my birthday. Madeo was a great experience as far as the food, atmosphere and service was concerned. The reason I give them 3 stars is because there was an error on the bill. I did not notice the error until I got home but there was a $20 error in addition from the total amount and the tip. In my tipsiness I did not add correctly. I called first thing Monday morning only to be told the bookkeeper was not in. I called back later in the day only to be told the bookkeeper had already left for the day. I called back Tuesday and was told the bookkeeper was eating lunch and to call back in 30 min. When I finally got thru to the bookkeeper she did not ask me my name or attempt to look up the receipt. She told me to fax over the copy of the receipt with an explanation of what happened. I did so and called back Wednesday morning only to be told the fax had not been received. She told me to fax it over again but by this time I decided to just go thru my bank. They credited me the $20 after hearing my story. I would recommend this place if you want EXCELLENT Italian food and nice service.
