Alhambra is one of the centers of Chinese cuisine in Southern California, but thanks to the aggressive redevelopment of its downtown area, Main Street has emerged as a serious restaurant row with an eclectic collection of eateries. A welcome addition to the street is Marla's, a venture of Hany Fawzy, proprietor of the well-established La Parisienne in Monrovia. The cuisine enjoyed at the inviting restaurant's linen-clad tables is mostly traditional French bistro fare. Among favored starters are escargots de Bourgogne, French onion soup, moules marinières and house pâté. Entrées include crispy duck with truffle sauce, braised lamb shank and whole Maine lobster.
