With duck confit on an artisan ciabatta roll, or Kurobuta pork belly bánh mì, you know this is not your ordinary sandwich shop.

Downtown workers on the run have many options for a quick lunch or take-out, but few more appealing than Mendocino Farms, where the sandwiches could not be more different than those on offer at national chains. As a result, folks line up at the door of this neo-rustic spot, greeted by a statue of a blue-and-white cow. Chef Judy Han honed her skills in places like Lucques, Sona and Grace, and her wine country-inspired sandwich concepts have a decidedly upscale orientation. We like the crispy duck confit sandwich, stuffed into an artisan ciabatta roll with balsamic-poached figs, spinach and herb aïoli. Also impressive are Mendocino Farms’ Kurobuta pork belly bánh mì, and a good curried chicken salad sandwich. A wide array of healthy and-or vegetarian sandwiches is available, too.
