Dominique Ansel Bakery Restaurant Review:

Dominique Ansel, who was born, raised and trained in France, served as executive pastry chef at New York's Daniel for several years. He has since continued to make a name for himself with his own bakery and the invention of the "cronut," a half croissant-half doughnut, which comes in seasonal varieties like blackberry, pear honey cream cheese and rose lychee. Also on the menu are cakes, tarts, cookies and other pastries, plus soups (try the smoked gazpacho in the summer), salads and sandwiches. Look for pillowy grapefruit Champagne macarons, frozen s'mores presented on a stick, and milk "shots" in little cups made of chocolate chip cookies. To avoid the line that starts way before the store opens and can be around the block, you can pre-order online.
