New Flavors Restaurant Review:

We can think of two good reasons for the name New Flavors. It could refer to the fact that this bright, comfortable spot, complete with Muzak that veers more to the greatest hits of Kenny Rogers than to the musical repertoire of the Beijing Opera, offers a different approach to Chinese food from the tired old restaurant that previously occupied the space. A lengthy list of more than twelve dozen largely Szechuan and Cantonese classics includes such standouts as breadcrumb-coated boneless chicken pieces in a spicy lemon-garlic sauce; crisp, succulent prawns in mayonnaise sauce with honey-glazed walnuts; and a stir-fry of steak nuggets, sea scallops, shrimp and vegetables poured over crispy noodles on a sizzling platter. Or perhaps the name refers to the fact that the menu also features more than a dozen different traditional Hawaiian barbecue plates, all served with the islands' obligatory macaroni salad and steamed rice, including marinated grilled short ribs, pork and chicken; fried shrimp; and the fetchingly named loco moco---a pair of beef patties topped with two fried eggs and brown gravy. New Flavors, indeed!
