Sushi Sasa Restaurant Review:
About the restaurant: White tablecloths, pale wood contemporary chairs and comfy banquettes give this room a calm, Zen-like look. But, alas, all the wood surfaces conspire to make this long, narrow room a noisy space. At the back is a long sushi bar where three or four chefs banter while putting on an amazing culinary show.
Food & Drinks: Chef-owner Wayne Conwell, who studied with Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto, creates innovative fish-based dishes such as sushi tartare (served in an espresso cup with wasabi and gingered soy sauce), blue fin sashimi with jalapeño or tender Kobe beef medallions with a soy glaze. The sauces---yuzu-soy, ponzu and black-bean---are irresistible. LoDo locals and people shopping at the flagship REI across the street come here during happy hour for two-for-one saké and discounted hand rolls (try the Japanese pumpkin and the eel). Friendly staff, good service and more than a dozen sakés to choose from.
