| This charming, unpretentious American bistro occupies a Spanish Mission-style building in the heart of South Pasadena. Dark-stained, candlelit tables are squeezed into the intimate space, and others occupy a garden patio in front. Like the décor, the cooking is unfussy but hardly boring---especially at such reasonable prices. The short dinner menu might feature starters like slow-roasted pork belly with shaved Brussels sprouts and chestnuts, or crispy prawns with chorizo rémoulade. Entrées range from a big-league burger with red onion relish to a massive pork loin chop with root vegetables, pork belly and a port wine reduction. Sweet potato fries with herbed aïoli make a good side dish. Finish off with a nice little cheese plate or warm banana bread with peanut butter cream. Seasonal cocktails are on offer, as well as a compact but succinct wine list. |
