Obikà, a casual but sophisticated mozzarella bar based in Italy, with locations from Tokyo to Kuwait City, debuted its first California branch in Century City, and has since opened at the Beverly Center. The sleek, minimalist space exudes the style of Ferrari or Prada, but is invitingly casual. The centerpiece of the restaurant is a softly illuminated mozzarella bar on which the prized imported cheese, Italian cured meats and salads are showcased in refrigerated containers, kind of like fish at a sushi bar. There is also table seating in the dining room or on a patio. Premium mozzarella di bufala Compana DOP is showcased, flown in from Italy, and paired with fresh local ingredients. A Grande Degustazione (grand tasting) will introduce you to different varieties of Obikà’s fresh mozzarella, or you can pair your favorite variety with prosciutto di San Daniele, speck dell’Alto Adige or culatello. There are also pastas on the menu, and you’ll find some interesting wines from many regions of Italy. Desserts include tiramisu and a ricotta di bufala mousse with honey, orange peel and pine nuts. Obikà, designed to show off the artisanal products of Italy, makes for a convenient stop before or after a movie.
