Padri Restaurant Review

: Padri is what might result if a Tuscan farmhouse were redone as a restaurant by a team of martini-drinking boomers. (Actually, they did the makeover on a onetime gas station.) A member of the Italian restaurant family that includes such spots as Il Moro, Locanda Veneta, Ca' del Sole and Ca'Brea, this pretty place is set in tranquil Agoura Hills. The interior, with its appealing amber light and tolerable noise level, is comforting, as is the food. Hearty dishes like spaghetti with veal and ricotta meatballs, and braised lamb shank with red wine sauce and spinach gnocchi, share billing with innovations such as a heirloom tomato carpaccio with pistachios, endive and sesame-crusted tuna. A decent wine list offers selections from America and Italy.

No longer the place we loved....

My wife and I used to frequently come here for dinner and the bar. I have always been satisfied with the quality of service, food, and environment coming here. Recently, however, we noticed a lot of new changes. There serving staff has changed a lot, they seem less attentive. The food and martini list has changed significantly as well. First, the new martinis added are missing the palate. They are odd flavors and too strong. The years past they had a consistent menu with very flavorful martinis. Secondly, the food just doesn't have the same quality and flavors. Although there are still favorites on there as before.

Now, we have been coming there enough to become friendly with management. It seems they have taken on another much younger manager. Age shouldn't matter, but when managing a place such as Padri with the great reputation that is has maintained until recently, one should consider a manager who can truly fill the roll not just play it. The new manager is not dressed in attire that fits along with the place. He has appeared rude and arrogant to my wife and I when we had a reservation with dinner, later tried to go to the bar and was asked to pay cover. We have never paid cover charges after eating there before. Finally, we overheard the way he speaks to his coworkers and found it appalling for someone who has not been there long.

It appears that they are trying to bring Hollywood to Agoura. That is ok, except please leave pretentious attitudes behind. Don't lose the Padri feel that we all know over the years. That's why we came and brought our friends and so on. For the Padri ambiance, it is no longer the same vibe.
Overall, we are not recommending this place to our friends anymore, there are other classier more consistent places located in our area.

We will not be coming here, nor will we recommend friends here anymore.
