| True, it has little of the romance of the island of Mykonos, but Papa Cristos offers three lamb chops with roasted potatoes, a Greek salad and fluffy house-made pita for a reasonable price, which is why this order-at-the-counter taverna is such a draw. We savor the massive plates of highly seasoned, garlicky gyros served with cool tzatziki, flaky spanakopita (spinach pies) and the chicken kebab. Chrys Chrys, the taverna’s vivacious owner, and his cousin, Mark Yordon, operate this sprawling Byzantine-Latino District establishment, which hosts a massive dining room and a market stocked with Greek imports. Don’t miss the first-rate baklava, satisfyingly sweet. |
