Plan B Burger Bar Tavern Restaurant Review: More than just a burger joint or local watering hole, this restaurant handcrafts burgers with the same care invested in the microbrews and bourbons that dominate an extensive drinks list. The proof lies in the concept's rapid expansion: Plan B now has five additional Connecticut locations, plus three restaurants outside its home state's borders. Burger prep has been elevated to a near-religion here: patties --- not just hormone- and antibiotic-free beef, but chicken, turkey and pork --- are freshly ground and hand-shaped in-house daily. Toppings, including adventurous add-ons like lobster and eggs (fried), come from local suppliers when possible. We have three tips you'll thank us for: lobster sliders on the appetizer menu are a must for seafood lovers; Parmesan fries are a worthy upgrade; ask for a pretzel bun. Since Plan B is Plan A for so many, it can get extremely crowded, making both tables and servers hard to come by (which is not to say that the latter don't try, just that they're sometimes overwhelmed). Note, too, that as the hour draws on, the place assumes more of a bar atmosphere. It's no wonder, with dozens of regional and hard-to-find microbrews, and a fine selection of small-batch and single-barrel bourbons to sample. If you're not satisfied with liquid dessert, try the peanut butter mousse-filled FunniBone.
