Portage Bay Cafe Restaurant Review: Portage Bay Café’s light-filled interior is spacious and pleasant. The kitchen focuses on using organic ingredients, which is a tad different from the University District’s typical, inexpensive ethnic food and funky bar fare. If you're stopping by for brunch, visit the breakfast bar to indulge in the "all-you-can-eat" options. Bananas Foster french toast is three slabs of challah crowned with sautéed bananas plus rum and brown sugar syrup. Savory choices include the cafe's playful take on eggs Benedict, which features spicy black bean-pancetta cakes atop cornbread bathed in a house-smoked-tomato and saffron sauce. At lunchtime, the menu boasts a seasonally changing list of fresh salads, a rosemary lamb sloppy Joe and a falafel burger topped with cucumbers and served on a homemade brioche bun. |
