California may be a vegetarian Mecca but it's nice to know you can still get a great steak once in a while. This bistro has a warm, relaxed atmosphere and friendly waitstaff eager to produce a superior meal for your enjoyment. Try whatever cocktail is the special of the night; you might get lucky with a tropical brandy, rum and juice concoction served in a translucent teapot with a martini glass. The romaine hearts salad is dressed and sprinkled with cheese on a tray by your table, giving you a feeling that this meal is indeed a special occasion. The only other starters are the Porterhouse salad and the soup of the day, and the entrée choices are limited to porterhouse steak and a couple of vegetarian options, but you came in for the steak and that's where the energy is focused. Served sizzling on a 500-degree platter, the meat continues to cook for a minute or two after it reaches your table. Sides may include sautéed mushrooms, garlic mashed potatoes or sliced tomato and onions. Save room for the chocolate lava cake, even if it means leaving steak on your plate. You'll be happy to have the leftovers anyway. |
