Porto's Bakery & Cafe, Glendale, CA

Porto's Bakery & Cafe Restaurant Review

: Porto's Bakery & Cafe, which began as a small family business, has evolved into a multi-million-dollar, 20,000-square-foot operation in downtown Glendale, and is still family-run. The selection of pastries --- from Cuban to Danish to Italian --- is endless, with options from a dulce de leche Bundt cake to pumpkin cheesecake. Individually sized opéra or Grand Marnier mousse cakes are as artfully presented as at a French pâtisserie. Porto's also does a brisk business with elaborately decorated sheet cakes for special occasions, and offers an impressive repertoire of towering wedding cakes, too. A large café area accommodates quick orders of deftly prepared café con leche and the bakery’s very respectable croissants, or Cuban specialties like puff pastry stuffed with chorizo, a roasted pork sandwich with garlic sauce, meat pies, croquettes and plantain chips. You can even get Cuban dinners like ropa vieja (shredded beef) with rice, black beans, fried plantains and grilled onions.
