Porto's Bakery Restaurant Review: Porto's, which began as a small family business, has evolved into a multi-million-dollar, 20,000-square-foot operation in downtown Glendale, and is still family-run. The selection of pastries---from Cuban to Danish to Italian---is endless and individually-sized opéra or Grand Marnier mousse cakes are as artfully presented as at a French pâtisserie. Porto's also does a brisk business with elaborately decorated sheet cakes for special occasions, and offers an impressive repertoire of towering wedding cakes. A large café area accommodates quick orders of deftly prepared café con leche and the bakery’s very respectable croissants, or Cuban specialties like medianoches (pressed sandwiches with ham, cheese, pork and pickles), croquetas or empanadas. You can even get Cuban dinners like ropa vieja with all the trimmings.
