| Housed in the posh Sapphire “gentlemen’s club” in the former East Side outpost of Scores, Prime 333 is guided in the kitchen by chef Jayson Margulies, who is no stranger to steakhouses and strippers: he did time at the stoves at Robert’s Steakhouse at the Penthouse Executive Club. While the menu items might be severely overpriced, keep in mind that places like this are designed so patrons spend lots of money. And there are several items that will stimulate the taste buds. Start with the Kobe carpaccio, which is hidden under a pile of arugula but worth digging for to experience its subtle spice and fragile texture. There are several steaks for two on offer, but the dinosaur-size T-bone (for one) is nicely cooked and prime quality. For non-red-meat eaters, the straightforward broiled diver scallops, wading only in a shallow pool of lemon herb butter, are prepared (and taste) just as they should. The wine list leans heavily toward outrageous selections, but is sprinkled with a few affordable options. There’s also a small (and pricey) list of wines by the glass. |
