One of Houston's grand old restaurants, this elegant food temple celebrates all things Texas. The tomato salad is a stack of locally grown tomatoes and fresh basil. Expect regional Prime beef, fresh fish and game. Earthy duck gumbo, grilled Texas quail or pheasant and duck quesadillas can spark your appetite for the sportsman's aesthetic. In a nod to outdoorsmen and a major manufacturer, there’s an "Orvis salmon," a silky Atlantic fish sautéed with spinach and crab meat and given sinus-clearing heat with pepper, onions and garlic. The grilled gulf catch, usually a simple filet with lemon and a spicy side of pasta; lavender-rubbed axis loin; buffalo rib-eye with green chili; and sagebrush duck are dishes that make us feel like cattle barons. Even those who aren't into eating exotic flesh will be wowed by the remarkable wine list. |
