Red Lion Tavern Restaurant Review

: Going strong since 1959 is this eccentric little tavern-restaurant-beer garden, the place to go for a good selection of German beers on tap (or some decent German wines, for non-beer drinkers) and an even better selection of bratwurst, knockwurst, liverwurst, leberkase (veal loaf), kasslerrippchen (pork chops) and other authentic, beer-friendly German specialties. Begin with items like landjäger (dried cured sausage, served with mustard), a German pretzel or formidable sausage platter for sampling. Sauerbraten is smothered in gravy and accompanied by zesty red cabbage and dumplings, while schnitzel is done like in the Old Country. From the sea, there’s pickled or creamed herring, and for dessert Black Forest cake or walnut nussecken pastries, laden with marzipan. It's always Oktoberfest at the Red Lion, with its timbered walls, extensive collection of beer steins, waitresses in traditional garb and festive air.
