Redd Wood Restaurant Review

: Yountville’s Richard Reddington of Redd fame offers Napa Valley a casually elegant osteria with Redd Wood, where the focus is on Italian-inspired wood-fired pizza and fresh, house-made pasta. The chic ambience is right on par with the seasonal menu: warm amber wood walls give the appearance of polished barrel staves, and a striking, domed copper buoy lamp spotlights an impressive wine collection. An open, white-tiled kitchen showcases the wood-fired oven and invites diners to view the culinary dance firsthand. Locavores will enjoy house-cured meats, artisanal cheeses and pickled vegetables served with crunchy crostini. Comfort abounds with earthy wild mushroom bacon-chive ragoût topped with a sunny side egg on a warm bed of creamy polenta. There’s no going wrong with the ten pizza selections; for a hint of sweet-smoky spice, try the pie with sausage, tomato, mozzarella, Calabrian chili, onion and rapini. Fresh linguine with calamari and anchovy, adorned with capers, olives and chilies, conjures memories of an Italian holiday. House-made desserts almost overshadow the mains. Try the tiramisu in a jar or the cookie sampler including coconut macaroon, caramel cheesecake and brown butter cookies, paired with Bourbon-spiked muscavado milk. Wines include reasonably-priced local and Italian selections, or sample the craft beer and full bar offerings.
