The Restaurant at the Standard Restaurant Review: As Los Angeles residents know, nothing at The Standard hotel is of the ordinary, including the 24-hour restaurant. The long, narrow dining room is a modern take on the retro diner theme, but rest assured, there's nothing old-fashioned about the menu. Inspired no doubt by the nostalgic motif, dishes follow a comfort theme but manage to offer an international blend of flavors---here, standard fare...isn't. And we're the better for it. Appetizers might include white bean and roasted garlic hummus or mini cheeseburgers with provolone and tomato relish. A standard pizza becomes interesting when Moroccan lamb sausage is introduced. Entrées range from roasted salmon with lemon risotto to a 14-ounce grilled marinated rib-eye steak. The wine list, though short, is fairly adventurous and deserves accolades for bravely offering lesser-known varietals like Viognier, Tempranillo, Gewürztraminer and Montrachet. Breakfast and brunch menus are equally whimsical, including selections like the eggsadilla and decadent brioche french toast. There’s also an overnight menu. This is an equally popular spot for poolside breakfast power meetings and for after-hours Sunset Strip stopovers, but whatever time of day you drop in, you can rest assured that the flavors will be fresh and straightforward.
