Dining room at Sadie, Los Angeles, CAThe former Les Deux space in Hollywood has been transformed into a vibrant gastropub named Sadie, replete with a booth-filled "parlor" and semi-outdoor courtyard, as well as two bars that offer handcrafted cocktails. Chef Mark Gold from Eva Restaurant has taken over the kitchen and created a very tasty, bistro-style menu. Start with his signature Schaner Farms duck egg, seasoned with spring garlic and accompanied by asparagus in a brown butter sauce. Pork belly is very well flavored with yuzu kosho, while the lamb meatballs are spiced with vadouvan and paired with whipped yogurt. We like the way Gold cooks his wild Alaska halibut to medium rare, as he does with the Columbia River king salmon. If you are in the mood for meat, we suggest the Pekin duck breast with crispy skin served with glazed carrots and black rice. We have to acknowledge Gold’s creativity. He had to reinvent himself at Sadie, differentiating it from Eva and making the cuisine quite accessible, so it’s almost a place you can come every week. Desserts are still in the works, so for now we recommend finishing with a sweet house-made cocktail.
