Specializing in both sushi and shabu-shabu, with every table and every spot at the horseshoe-shaped counter equipped with a recessed burner, Shige is a modern storefront restaurant decked out in trendy battleship grey. Led by Shigenori Fujimoto, who spent 11 years at Matsuhisa, the young, accommodating staff serves up respectable sushi, L.A.-style contemporary rolls and often-rewarding dishes like new style salmon sashimi with crispy ginger and tofu purée, sashimi salad with onion-soy dressing, and grilled spiny lobster with spicy cream sauce. Desserts range from a decadent chocolate soufflé cake to a surprisingly satisfying tofu tiramisu.
