Sidewalk Cafe Restaurant Review

: The best seat on the Venice Boardwalk is undoubtedly at Sidewalk Café. Dining on the crowded outdoor patio can be immensely entertaining, especially on weekends, with its passing parade of humanity. Unfortunately, to enjoy this, you'll have to put up with humdrum, middle-of-the-road American food and a truly dingy interior. Keep your choice as simple as possible, like a no-frills omelet or burger. Since the café arose out of Small World Books, sandwiches are named for authors. The "Daniel Pinkwater" is made with chicken breast, tomatoes and grilled onions on a wheat bun, while the "Henry Miller" is a concoction of grilled pastrami, melted Swiss, onions and tomatoes on a French roll. The "Will Rogers" omelet is made with spinach, mushrooms and jack cheese, and the "Cormac McCarthy" pizza is a fiery (and greasy) combination of chorizo, jalapeño and chicken.
