Located in the loft district adjacent to Little Tokyo, this largely undiscovered little gem offers some of the biggest portions of home-style cooking you'll find in L.A. From a massive bowl of red beans and rice to a towering hot link sandwich to a mountain of fried chicken wings and fries, this out-of-the-way spot provides plenty of bang for the buck. The fried chicken is among the city's very best and the moist cornbread patties are addictive. The tiny dining room---with no more than a half-dozen candlelit, linen-clad tables, gallery-quality art and banquettes with throw pillows---is charming, and a new expansion boasts the kind of sleek, trendy room you'd expect to find on the Westside.
