Sqirl Restaurant Review:

Artisanal breakfast and lunch dishes and a quirky ambience are the hallmarks of this Silver Lake hipster eatery. Some really dynamic cooking is coming out of its tiny kitchen. Chef/owner Jessica Koslow has gained a following for cult preserves like wild blueberry tarragon, Santa Rosa plums and olallieberry, which can be found at the café spread on thick brioche breakfast toasts. If your appetite is more savory, try the version topped with greens, tomatillo purée, lacto-fermented hot sauce and a fried egg. We also enjoy the Kokuho Rose brown rice bowl with fresh sorrel pesto, preserved Meyer lemon, feta and a poached egg (sprinkled with tiny, edible flowers). Any of these paired with G&B coffee is a great little breakfast, and seasonal, fleeting lunch specials are equally ambitious --- like the scallop ceviche with citrus and fennel, or Mangalitsa terrine with fresh favas and sour cherries. Sidewalk seating is best; coffee’s available for takeout in a lidded jar and the seasonal preserves are also for sale.
