SUR Restaurant & Lounge Restaurant Review:

About the owners & the décor: SUR Restaurant is a partnership between four friends: Nathalie and Guillermo Zapata, and Lisa Vanderpump Todd of “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills / Vanderpump Rules” and her husband Ken Todd. Nathalie and Ken run the back of the house, while charming Guillermo, a Clooney look-alike, takes care of guests seated amid a décor done entirely by Lisa. Vanderpump has let loose with her pink and bohemian imagination and creativity. Every section of the restaurant, and including SUR Lounge, has a different feel. You’ll be welcomed by a giant statue of the Hindu goddess Shiva, to then find candles and chandeliers, bird cages, pillows, a huge bouquet of fresh-cut flowers, a private room with sexy shutters allowing patrons to see and be seen, an unexpected outdoor garden with a bronze thousand-hands Buddha figure and huge trees, long leather chesterfields, little velvet stools, industrial zinc tables and more chandeliers, but this time in cages, as well as antiques doors and graphic modern glass tiles. The interior’s low lighting and white linens lend an intimate feel to the place, where you can spot celebrities like Penelope Cruz, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Vanessa Williams, Jessica Simpson, Sharon Stone, Madonna and Britney Spears. Many of them are women, as the eclectic design is more on the feminine side. When it comes to the food, the excitement is not as elevated, as the cuisine is simple and needs a little work.

strong>Likes: The party ambiance. Décor. Great brunch on weekends.
Dislikes: Food can be a little to simple.

About the food & drink: You can start with a Belgian endive or golden and red beet salad, or perhaps lobster bisque. The fried goat cheese balls are not exactly what we would call a winning dish. Among entrées are sesame seed-crusted seared ahi that we paired with rice and steamed spinach; grilled skirt steak with a basil butter sauce, salad and french fries; and roasted rack of lamb in rosemary red wine sauce. Desserts are uncomplicated: crêpes, Key lime tart, blackberry cobbler, fresh fruit salad or a layered chocolate cake. Allow yourself plenty of time when you dine at SUR (Sexy Unique Restaurant), as having a drink in the lounge is a must and you can easily find yourself staying after hours to enjoy the atmosphere.
