Sushi Kimagure Restaurant Review:

This sparely decorated sushi bar, tucked into a massive apartment complex near a Metro Gold Line station, is one of the area’s most serious sushi establishments. Affable veteran sushi chef Ike-san set up shop here after departing his eponymous sushi bar in Hollywood. This is not the place to come if your idea of sushi includes spider rolls, California rolls or spicy tuna on crispy rice. Sushi Kimagure is a staunchly traditional restaurant designed for the enjoyment of an omakase meal at the hands of a chef who has earned a reputation as a local master. All of the fish is of fine quality and some specimens, such as the toro and uni, simply melt in your mouth without the aid of any embellishment. We believe, however, that the all-sushi omakase (about a dozen pieces) lacks some of the creativity and finesse found at the best sushi bars in the Valley or on the Westside. Another omakase, interspersing broiled, grilled and tempura-fried items with premium sashimi and sushi, is slightly more inspired, but we still feel like Ike-san is holding back some of his best tricks. The relatively short saké list offers a wide range of price points.
