| Years ago, this neighborhood eatery---always packed to the gills---was known for its half-price sushi deals. But as Pasadenans became more sophisticated about Japanese cuisine, the quality of the sushi here has consistently increased to meet increasingly higher expectations. The specialty rolls aren't much different than you'll find at any other neighborhood sushi bar, and the teriyaki and tempura dishes don’t distinguish the place, either. What impresses us are the fresh daily sushi selections that include surprisingly high quality kanpachi, uni, live scallop and often topnotch toro. Consistency, once an issue here, is minimized if you sit at the sushi bar and communicate with the chefs. Their best efforts can be rewarding, and prices are extremely competitive relative to Westside sushi bars. |
