When is a restaurant not a restaurant? When it shuts down its dining room after a year of being open and becomes a bar. But Tailor is not just a bar, either. It's a bar that sells Sam Mason's cutting edge cuisine. The menu is divided into small salty plates and small sweet plates. Of these, only the pork belly dish with miso butterscotch and artichoke is substantive enough to constitute real food. Others are mere trifles and not particularly good. Caramel panna cotta with crunchy coffee and corn sorbet tastes faintly of coffee. Foie gras with peanut butter, cocoa and pear is downright strange. Cocktails are equally hit-or-miss. A Violet Fizz is mild enough but the Bazooka made with bubble gum and vodka is too bizarre to drink.
