With an indoor/outdoor space right on Washington Square, Talula’s Garden invites lingering. An urban extension of Aimee Olexy’s Kennett Square establishment, Talula’s Table, in partnership with Starr Restaurants, this venture delivers garden-to-plate dishes, seasonal tastes that might include a celery root soup redolent with spiced pears, or rich lobster “pie,” a sauté of lobster, parsnips and Brussels sprouts. Although chefs have come and gone, current executive chef Sean McPaul, who hails from South Philly, brings impressive skill to the table, having honed his craft at left coast institutions including Farallon and Jardinière. Save plenty of room for cheese --- there's an entire farmhouse table devoted to artisanal selections with fun groupings like "In Kind. Four Rare & Ridiculous Cheeses. Lucky We Share" featuring Cypress Grove Creamery “Truffle Tremor” among others. The farm-to-bar cocktails and wine list are courtesy of consultant Brian Freedman. We like the Portuguese rosé. And for dessert, do try the rum baba.
