Though it’s tucked into a looming corporate building that also hosts Westwood’s iPic Theaters, Tanzy Restaurant is one of the neighborhood’s most beguiling and versatile spots. Designer Karen Hanlon has created an airy, inviting space featuring natural materials like hand-hewn, reclaimed wood sourced from century-old barns in the Midwest. Dinner can be a romantic affair, especially if you’re seated beneath the grotto of carved wood vines modeled on a Balinese forest. Handcrafted seasonal “farmstand” cocktails are ideal for sipping around the sleek patio fire pits. Chef Bryan Podgorski (The French Laundry, Bouchon Las Vegas) dishes up starters of grilled Spanish octopus and beef carpaccio, and such entrées as a soulful braised Angus short rib. Podgorski’s standout pasta dishes include orecchiette with spicy turkey sausage and wilted Swiss card; pappardelle with forest mushroom ragù and Jidori chicken; and bucatini with tomato and guanciale. The lively brunch even proposes a “bacon and eggs” ravioli. Vanilla panna cotta with seasonal fruit and amaretti crumble is the ideal finish. iPic moviegoers can opt for truffle fries, filet mignon sliders and Sherry Yard-designed treats at the theater’s Tanzy Express.
