THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Tsukiji Restaurant Review:

Anchoring a strip-mall with numerous Japanese dining options is this reliable sushi spot, named for the famous Tokyo fish market. The wood-rich space is unexciting, save for an elevated section with traditional low tables, cushion seating, and no shoes allowed. Unlike many sushi establishments, Tsukiji is a multi-chef operation. Depending on when you eat there, the meal may have a different personality. Expect a checklist of recognizable sushi, sashimi and rolls. Pass on the ubiquitous salmon, yellowtail and sweet shrimp, since Tsukiji sources excellent Spanish mackerel and Japanese sardine. Hand-written specials are more imaginative and may include “sea urchin on the wooden box” or yellowtail cheek. More interesting still is the seared toro sashimi topped with sea urchin and flying fish roe, rich but satisfying. For dessert, the only option is ice cream, by the scoop or encased in mochi. Choose mochi, and order refreshing mango instead of the pasty cappuccino. Overall, the uneven results don’t justify the high prices or the rushed service. Still, Tsukiji serves market-fresh fish and is worth a stop if you’re in the neighborhood.
