THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Mo-Chica Restaurant Review:
A few blocks from Exposition Park sits the Mercado La Paloma, a charming and colorful little indoor marketplace with Mexican crafts, tropical smoothies and casual Latin eateries. Chef-owner Ricardo Zarate has staked out an airy corner here for his sophisticated yet reasonably priced contemporary Peruvian cuisine. A veteran of upscale Japanese restaurants like Wabi-Sabi in Venice, Zarate's specialty is fish---especially ceviche. It's a less typical ceviche, with a more nuanced and complex citrusy sauce than found elsewhere. Another specialty is the causa del dia, or potato salad of the day. For mains, try the lomo saltado, a savory beef filet sliced thin, served with Peruvian salsa and fries, or the lamb shank---any choice will be a great value. The fish of the day is also a sure bet, whether it's barracuda, snapper or sea bass, fresh and nicely sautéed.
