 Villetta creates a magical hideaway in the historic building that formerly housed Chez Mimi. Well-groomed locals lend a posh ambience to an enchanting garden courtyard flanked by herbs and fruit trees. An intimate series of spaces offers a variety of atmospheres ranging from more formal dining to small plates and cocktails by the fireplace. Co-owner Antonio De Cicco’s career has spanned from Le Cirque to Toscana, and he welcomes every guest like an old friend. The kitchen marries classic Southern Italian cuisine with a California aesthetic. Ingredients are carefully sourced, from free-range meats to Santa Barbara spot prawns, sea urchin and farmers market produce. House-made pastas are memorable. The organic Sonoma chicken “al mattone” is grilled over a hardwood fire, and nestled on a panzanella of smoked goat ricotta, toasted ciabatta, olives, tomato and cucumber. For dessert, don’t miss the “Italian sundae” of almond cake and fresh cherry ice cream. Expect an Italian/California wine list peppered with esoteric Italian gems.
