Ward 426 Restaurant Review:

Two of the city’s most distinguished chefs, Shawn Ward (formerly of Jack Fry’s) and Dean Corbett (Equus and Jack’s Lounge and Corbett’s: An American Place) teamed up to make Ward 426 a major player in Louisville’s competitive dining scene. Ward heads the kitchen while Corbett recruits and supervises the front of house staff. Among the appetizers to pair with an expertly crafted cocktail are shrimp and grits with red-eye gravy, mussels steamed in coconut milk and lime juice, tomato artichoke soup and duck liver mousse. Both the watermelon salad with crispy pork belly and lemonade vinaigrette and the roasted peach salad with Marcona almonds and crispy rosemary are notable changes of pace from the usual greens. Ward has a deft touch with seafood, such as his seared salmon with green lentils. Other entrées include seared bourbon smoked duck, New York strip with Madeira veal demi-glace, and ravioli stuffed with sweet potato and mushrooms. Your server will be able to give good advice about the well-chosen, though somewhat pricey, wine list. The best way to end your meal is with the light lemon cheesecake with a blueberry citrus coulis.
