 Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill Restaurant Review: This elegant, sprawling bar and grill at L.A. Live is casual and versatile enough for a fancy dinner or post-event drinks. The airy modern room gleams with luminous violet tiles, while classic rock kicks up the energy for both a youthful crowd and well-heeled baby-boomers. The grander dishes --- almond-crusted salmon with horseradish potato purée and oven-roasted free-range chicken with blanched garlic --- are good but standard Puck fare. Puck-luxe pizzas --- sweet fennel sausage, roasted peppers and goat cheese for one --- are great bar food, but could be crispier. It’s really the smaller dishes that steal the spotlight, such as the humble yet elevated market salad of seasonal vegetables and greens, olives, feta and pine nuts, skillfully composed and dressed. Ricotta gnocchi with a pork and beef bolognese is deeply flavorful; calamari is straightforward, but accompanied by a light aïoli that could be spread on bread for a meal in itself. For dessert, go with pecan pie with sweet tangerines, or apple and toasted almond crumble pie. Service is spot-on, and the wine list features a compelling array of Austrian (unsurprisingly given Puck’s roots) Rieslings and Grüner Veltliners.
