THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Yojisan Sushi Restaurant Review:

Giacomino Drago continues to branch out from the Drago family of Italian restaurants with a sister spot to Bel Air's Sushi House Unico (SHU). Yojisan Sushi is a partnership between Drago and sushi chef Yoji Tajima, the restaurant’s namesake. The long space encompasses a dining room with beams of light on the walls and a splash of red on the ceiling, plus a sushi bar in the back and a few tables out front along Beverly Drive. Yojisan might start out sparse with diners, but it fills up with the young Beverly Hills crowd as the night wears on. You’ll find the sushi selections you’d expect on the slender paper menu, while the larger menu offers up some fusion-style surprises such as spicy tuna tacos and hamachi and burrata sashimi, plus “hot plates” like broiled black cod marinated in sweet miso sauce. The kitchen also goes above and beyond with daily specials based on market availability. For the most part, the dishes are well-executed and feature fresh fish. Occasionally, a creative dish can go astray, as with the competing flavors in the swordfish crudo with blood orange, kumquats, truffle oil and shaved white truffles. For dessert, deep-fried bananas are sliced and topped with mochi green tea ice cream in a sushi roll-like presentation. Imbibers can choose from sake, wine, signature cocktails and Japanese beers including Koshihikari Echigo, a lager made with rice.
