Coworth Park Review

Purchasing a home next door to the Queen of England probably isn't in the budget this year ... or the next, for that matter. What you can do is vacation royalty-adjacent at the Dorchester Collection's Coworth Park, which neighbors Windsor Castle. This English country house hotel is in Ascot, an area famous for all things horseracing, and from its interior design to activities offered, it embraces that lifestyle. Set on 240 acres, this former mansion residence still maintains the charm of all of its original buildings, including stables that are now stylish guest rooms named after Derby winners.

The 70 rooms come in three different types: Stable rooms, Mansion rooms and the eighteenth-century Dower House, a standalone cottage with three bedrooms and a kitchen. Luxurious amenities include Bang & Olufsen televisions, Blu-ray DVD players and tea and coffee makers. The best part, though, is the décor — English smoked oak flooring, bespoke furniture and more than 600 individual pieces of artwork throughout the property.

Coworth Park is the only hotel in the UK with two polo fields and a lively social polo calendar. The equestrian manager, Laura Richardson, has competed for Great Britain in the European Championships and the World Equestrian Games, and guests will find many activities and features for horse lovers and riders of any level — they'll even loan you the necessary riding equipment, such as hats, gloves, protective jackets and Shires boots. It isn't all about horses here, though. In addition, the property offers croquet, tennis, jogging, mountain bikes, a pool, a steam room, a gym, access to championship golf courses at Wentworth Golf Club and even a kids' club.

After a day of outdoor activities, Coworth's luxury eco-spa is a great place to unwind. Partially submerged in the landscape, it's the only new building on the property and features a “Living Roof” with a garden of thyme, lavender, chamomile and other herbs grown for use in the spa, which features all-natural treatments from Dr. Alkaitis — so natural they're edible! Luckily, if you don't want to snack on your facial, you can head to the Spatisserie for a selection of healthy, organic dishes.

There is no shortage of dining options at Coworth Park. The property houses four different dining experiences, including his Restaurant Coworth Park, whose fine dining menu showcases fresh seasonal ingredients, and The Barn, with a more casual ambiance and a courtyard for alfresco dining. For a quiet retreat, tea and snacks are served in The Drawing Room.

The property's idyllic scenery makes it a destination for outdoor weddings, private events and even company retreats. The Mansion House offers two event rooms, with space for up to 100 guests and views of the sunken garden. More intimate gatherings can be enjoyed in the castle-like Tower venue, which holds up to 40 guests.

Getting to Coworth Park is convenient — just 45 minutes from central London and twenty minutes from Heathrow Airport. For the royal treatment, you can always opt for the more extravagant entrance and use the hotel's own helipad.
