: Step down into this quasi-subterranean neighborhood Asian eatery, one of the few Malaysian restaurants in New York. The interior is clad in wood, all the way or up to the wooden lattice that partly camouflages the bare white ceiling. The menu is made up of feel-good fare. Soups, slightly spicy and very nutritious tasting, are highlighted by the tom yum, which is served with pineapple. Beef rendang, a slow-cooked and tender meat dish, is accompanied by onions, lemon grass and chilies wading in a thick curry sauce. Another favorite is kari sayur campur, made with bean curd and glass noodles cooked in a clay pot. Steer clear of the Chinese dishes --- such as General Tso’s chicken --- and it’s hard to go wrong. |
