Housed in one of the swankiest hotels to open in New York in the last five years, The Regent Wall Street, 55 Wall caters to scions of big business. Housed in an 1842 building that was once the U.S. Customs house, the dining room is appropriately plush, if a bit non-descript. What sets it apart, though, is the grand terrace with its stone columns overlooking the street a story below. John Halligan prepares seasonally conscious contemporary American food like chilled jumbo prawns with mustard sauce, lamb T-bone with chive spätzle and homemade sauerkraut, or a roasted monkfish tail with crayfish grits. Whatever you choose, if you listen to the conversation at the next table you may pick up a hot stock tip, and you’ll need it when the bill comes.
