Aleo, a name derived from the owner’s parents’ first names, focuses on southern Italy (also the home of the owner’s parents) as well as Cyprus and, most improbably, Queens. Yet it somehow all works together harmoniously. There’s pappardelle served with pancetta, sweet peas, crimini mushrooms, onions and Parmesan cream sauce or New Zealand baby lamb chops atop zucchini purée and asparagus in a bordelaise sauce with zatar yogurt. Chill out at the bar or in the garden with some snazzy cocktails to complement your meal.
