| Ali Baba Terrace, a white-tablecloth eatery near the United Nations, offers scallops wrapped in Turkish pastrami that manages a nice pairing of flavors, and “calf’s liver cubes” that might not sound too tantalizing---the fried liver chunks (accompanied by a dill yogurt sauce) are like good bar food (but with that grand offal taste). Entrées include several Turkish grilled mixed meats (many of which include beef or lamb combined with garlic, hot peppers and tomatoes) as well as a decent steak (topped with a spicy vegetable sauce) and chicken cubes drenched in a walnut sauce. The sweet portion of the meal should not be missed: the moist baklava is some of the best this side of the Bosporus. |
