THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Alphabet Kitchen Restaurant Review:
This East Village newcomer boasts a colorful mural of stick figures drawn to look like the letters of the alphabet along one brick wall of the long, narrow space. The mural is quirky and bright, and jives well with the happy-go-lucky East Village crowd and rock-and-roll music. In back, the dining room is dominated by the open kitchen where chef Liz Arana turns out an eclectic menu of dishes from the Iberian Peninsula. Theres a short menu of tapas that are fairly predictable, like shrimp sautéed in garlic and chorizo cooked with a shot of sherry. Main dishes are more elaborate like suckling pig with persimmon, a meaty seared tuna, and a moulard duck cassoulet. In warm weather, the back garden complete with a waterfall will surely be the choicest seats in the house.
