Arlington Club Restaurant Review

: You’ll want to love Arlington Club for what it’s supposed to be: an upscale steakhouse and sushi restaurant. Inhabiting the former Payard Pâtisserie space and keeping much of its fine tiling and architectural details, the two-floor venue challenges you to have a good meal. You will need to wade through the poseur throngs at the bar, perhaps deal with delays with your reservation, and survive being squeezed into a table where jostling by waitstaff is unrelenting. Unfortunately, Laurent Tourondel’s food isn’t the attraction at this Upper East Side place. The steak and sushi are average at best, and secondary to the Caesar salad, which is actually quite good. Even the touted macaroni and cheese comes out a bit too crisped, as do the popovers. Order a second bottle from the expensive wine list and you may forget how much better it all should have been. Much like its scene-y siblings Lavo and Tao, Arlington Club is as much (or more) about simply being there, as actually eating there.
