Global-eclectic cuisine with Southern inflections (think fried green tomatoes and Southern cornmeal-encrusted catfish) in an upscale and sometimes rowdy Theater District joint makes this a unique experience. Proprietor and TV personality Barbara Smith runs the place (along with locations in Sag Harbor and Washington DC). Start off with shrimp rolls or Thai chicken wings, then move along to ahi niçoise, and then feast on barbecued chicken, or catfish. There's something for everyone here. The somewhat limited wine list includes some interesting bottles from Australia and South Africa and you can add a flight of wine to your meal for a reasonable $15.
