Housed in the former seafood-centric Neptune Room, this Upper West Side eatery does a more than decent job handling Italian cuisine. There’s outdoor seating for warm weather, but the back brick-walled room is a nice rustic place to wile away an evening, sipping wine from the mostly Italian and French wine list. The mix-and-match crostini section of the menu is a good place to start; try the impressive chicken liver mousse. The pasta selection is short, but the saffron risotto with shrimp and the fettuccine Bolognese are bold-flavored standouts. The tender strip steak is meaty goodness on a plate and the olive oil-poached halibut falls apart at the touch of a fork. For good-restaurant-deprived Amsterdam Avenue, Bar Luna is a star.
