Barbetta Restaurant Review:

If it's appealingly faded, old-world charm you crave, head to Barbetta, the oldest Italian restaurant in the city and still run by the family of the original proprietors. The restaurant is housed in two elegant townhouses on the Theater District's Restaurant Row, and the once-plush booths, crystal chandeliers, antique rugs and waitstaff will transport you to '50s Florence in a heartbeat. But what's lovely (and timeless) is the back garden that sports a bubbling fountain and bright, flowering bushes. Homemade pastas and risottos are always a good bet, and the beef braised in red wine and served with polenta can’t be beat. The dessert trolley features dozens of luxurious confections, and the wine list includes 300 labels. Prices are steep, but there is a reasonable prix-fixe pre-theater dinner menu.
