| The casual French air of this NoLIta restaurant belies a menu that’s loaded with Nuevo Latino-accented dishes. The mid-size eatery, bedecked with chandeliers curiously encased in plexiglass boxes, white-pillar wood moldings, and a pale pressed-tin ceiling, is a hit with Euro-friendly folk---from that espresso-sipping guy in the corner with the faux hawk to the model-looking ladies with the affected accents eating salads. And despite the scenester atmosphere, the menu has more misses than hits. The crisp bass taquitos---which are small tacos, not the usual fried, rolled stuffed tortillas---may be tasteless, leaving only a hint of spice on the taste buds afterward, with the fish soggy and anything but crisp. The safest bets are the salads, of which the duck confit salad, complete with lacquered walnuts and banana, is the best. |
