In addition to a sense of humor, the Bendix Diner seems to have an identity crisis---the menu features Swedish pancakes, Thai noodles, chili, stir-fried chicken teriyaki and a daily pasta special. The portions are huge and the homey dishes---meatloaf or pork chops with mashed potatoes---taste like Mom’s. Sometimes there’s even green gelatin with whipped cream. Bendix is very hip, so expect a wait for a table---especially during weekend brunch. Also located at 167 First Ave., 212-260-4220.
