Budapest Café & Restaurant Restaurant Review:

It's Old World at Budapest Café & Restaurant, from the food to the service. You won't find much that's modern or trendy in this sliver of a throwback spot with brick walls and a tin ceiling. Stuffed cabbage, goulash, strudels large enough for two or more to share, and schnitzel are the norm. There's also a nice selection of savory and sweet Hungarian pancakes, palacsintas filled with the likes of chicken paprikásh or raspberry jam. The signature dessert, dobos torte, is sponge cake layered with chocolate. You'll need a lot of patience, though. With only one server who does triple duty as bakery monitor, cashier and waitress, it's slow going. Tokaji wines, recorded Hungarian music and conversations around you in Hungarian fill in the gaps as you wait for your food or check. The weekday lunch special is a deal: $14.95 for soup or salad, entrée and dessert.
